Anyway, on with the site! Last time, I began to dissect a few of the challenges we've set ourselves to resolve the Evolution of Combat. 1 WEEK! OMG! Towards the end of the website, I would also like to discuss the Grand Exchange as well as the price of items, and attempt to address a few of the concerns that you may have regarding the market value of your gear.
Making battle a lot easier to get -- By now you should have seen all kinds of information concerning the activity bar and how you'll have the ability to build your own set of switches for key battle attributes. Importantly, you will also have the ability to map each on-screen button to your keyboard. You will have the ability to drag spells, equipment, prayers (including the quick prayer button). . .pretty anything, actually. Food you eat through the action bar will keep removing food out of the inventory until you're from the food type; same with potions. We are totally redesigning the charm novel also, which makes it significantly easier to use, and incorporating combat-specific abilities to their own ability publication! When you mouse-over a piece of gear, you'll get a tooltip that will tell you its stats, and certainly will colour-code any increases or declines to your combat statistics - really handy when dealing with brand new gear. We are also changing the way that combat levels are calculated. We are scrapping the current 138 max design and substituting it with a calculation that is far simpler to understand: X + Defence level +2 = your Combat level. We're making this shift purely because exercising your Combat level is, at current, complicated and perplexing, for new and experienced players alike. While they do have a clear and desired result, attempting to represent that in the Combat level calculation is complex and is not actually necessary. Encouraging challenging struggles.
We do not wish to flip RuneScape into something
This is only one of the largest areas of change in the Evolution of Combat update. In PvE combat we are rebalancing all NPCs in the game to better suit players of equivalent level. For many NPCs, this usually means giving them magical attacks to situate them clearly on the combat triangle. Most of the monsters you fight within the sport right now utilize standard melee attacks only, and seldom involve the need to use something other than your best weapon. All that will change as we will encourage you to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each monster (all shown very clearly on the battle side panel, where your stab/slash/crush/special attack buttons used to be) and to find out the best battle method and equipment to use against them.
