FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The Buffalo Bills reached their first winning record in 10 seasons. So what if the New England Patriots kept key players out of the game with the AFCs top seed already secured?Kyle Orton threw for one touchdown, Anthony Dixon ran for another and the Bills beat the going-through-the motions Patriots 17-9 on Sunday. With home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs clinched, the Patriots used quarterback Tom Brady for only the first half and held out tight end Rob Gronkowski and five other starters. The victory snapped several streaks: Buffalos 0-12 record at Gillette Stadium, and New Englands 35 home wins against AFC teams and 16 at home against any opponent. It was a price the Patriots (12-4) were willing to pay to protect starters, although left tackle Nate Solder didnt return after hurting his knee late in the first half. The Bills (9-7) were eliminated a week earlier from the playoffs for the 15th consecutive season, the longest current drought. But after winning just 28 games the past five seasons, they matched their record in 2004.With leading receiver Julian Edelman and starting linemen Dan Connolly and Sebastian Vollmer also inactive, New England failed to score a touchdown for the first time since the fifth game last season, a 13-6 loss at Cincinnati. Stephen Gostkowski kicked field goals of 24, 44 and 35 yards. The sellout crowd lacked its usual energy, but cheered when backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo took off on several runs.Brady played all five offensive series in the first half and failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time this season. He completed 8 of 16 passes for 80 yards and was sacked once.On his next-to-last possession, he was tackled by Stefan Charles for a 7-yard loss. On his final series, he kept the ball for a 2-yard keeper for a first down, then ran for 7 yards before sliding to avoid being hit on the final play.Orton completed 16 of 23 passes for 176 yards and went over the 3,000 mark in yards passing for the third time in his career. On the games first series, he quickly led the Bills on an 80-yard march capped by his 6-yard scoring pass to Robert Woods. He also completed passes of 18 yards to Lee Smith and 43 to Sammy Watkins on the drive. The teams then exchanged punts before Gostkowski kicked his 24-yarder.Orton led another 80-yard drive, lasting 7:24, to a 1-yard touchdown run by Dixon for a 14-3 lead.Gostkowski kicked his 44-yarder after a fumble recovery by Jamie Collins before Dan Carpenter gave the Bills a 17-6 halftime lead on a 48-yard field goal.Gostkowski added a 35-yarder late in the third quarter. The Bills rushed for 104 yards one week after picking up just 13, fourth fewest in team history, in a 26-24 loss to the Oakland Raiders.___AP NFL websites: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFLJohn Riggins Jersey . Tyrell appeared in seven games with the Lightning this year, he had no points in those appearances. The 24-year-old has seven goals and 17 assists in 132 career NHL games, all coming with the Lightning. He was selected in the second round, 47th overall, of the 2007 draft. Joe Theismann Jersey .ca. Hello Kerry, After watching Nino Niederreiter clobber Alex Burrows with an open-ice hit on Wednesday, do you think he should have gotten more than the two minutes for interference. There are some safe picks at the top of the Minnesota Wild depth chart, but more of their players are later picks with potential or sleeper value. Top Picks: While the Wild broke the bank for free agents last summer, they at least spent their money on premium players. LW Zach Parise is consistently productive and, aside from 2010-2011 when he played only 13 games because of a knee injury, Parise has missed either one or zero games in his seven other NHL seasons. He may not be a point-per-game guy again (something hes done twice), but hes a five-time 30-goal scorer worthy of being top five selection among left wingers. Ryan Suter stepped to centre stage in Minnesota and scored a career-high 0.67 points per game while leading the league in ice time, at 27:17 per game. Over the last five seasons, he has 199 points, which ranks eighth among defencemen. Hes a viable No. 1, but certainly a strong No. 2 option on the blueline. Value Plays: C Mikko Koivu is consistently productive, but his ceiling may be the 71-point season he had in 2009-2010. As a No. 2 fantasy centre hes okay, particularly considering that he benefits from playing with Parise. After he was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres, veteran RW Jason Pominville contributed nine points in 10 games before suffering a concussion. Hes one year removed from a 73-point season, but his value is going to be tied to where he fits in the lineup. If hes with Koivu and Parise on the top line, thats ideal; if hes on the second line, its not as ideal, so valuing him as a No.3 fantasy winger seems about fair. Hes 35 and last years .909 save percentage was the second-worst of his career, but G Niklas Backstrom also won 24 games, playing more than an ideal amount because of Josh Hardings health. Backstrom can still have value, but cant be expected to play as many games as 2013, when he played 42 of 48.dddddddddddd Sleepers/Breakthrough: At one time in the not-too-distant past, RW Dany Heatley was a first-round fantasy pick, but hes fallen on hard times, which now makes him a potential value pick up. His point production and ice time were at career-low levels last season, yet hes a nine-time 20-goal scorer who is likely to have a regular role on the power play. At some point, later in the draft, hes going to be worth a try. The Wild have a number of young players bucking for bigger roles. C Mikael Granlund was highly-touted last year, but was ultimately a bust as a rookie. He scored 28 points in 29 AHL games, however, so its too soon to give up on him. RW Charlie Coyle isnt a big scorer (14 points in 37 games as a rookie), but hes a big body and earned time down the stretch with Parise and Koivu. If he finds his way back to that spot, there is potential value. LW Jason Zucker had five points in 20 games with the Wild last season, but 24 goals and 50 points in 55 AHL games suggests that he has the ability to fill a second-line role. LW Nino Niederreiter had 28 goals and 50 points in 74 AHL games last season and is looking for a fresh start away from the Islanders. Any combination of these young forwards could ultimately have fantasy value, but until roles are settled, theyre difficult to draft. Rookies: The seventh overall pick in 2012, D Mathew Dumba isnt assured of a spot on the Wild roster, but hes a dynamic player, a defenceman who joins the rush, can score and play a physical game. It may be too soon to expect big numbers from Dumba, but hes worth having an eye on if he makes the club.
